The Library, Academic Science Building, and
the Engineering & Maintenance buildings are currently under
construction. Bids are underway for the Health & Physical
Education building, and plans have begun for the Student Center. |

A
reception is held for the 1968 Nobel prize winners at the United
States embassy in Stockholm. Winners include 3 biochemists who
are researching the genetic-hereditary-code. |

LIFT OFF*
NASA launches the Apollo 8 mission to orbit the moon. Astronauts
Frank Borman, James Lovell, and William Anders are on board. It
will take 3 days to travel to the moon. |

WEDS DAVID EISENHOWER*
President elect Richard Nixon's daughter, Julie, marries Dwight
Eisenhower's grandson, David, in New York City. |
DEC 28: ISRAEL
ATTACKS BEIRUT AIRPORT*
Israeli commandos destroy 13 Lebanese aircraft and more than
half of Lebanon's civil airline fleet in retaliation for the
Palestinian attack on an Israeli Airliner in Athens, Greece.

SUPERSONIC FLIGHT*
The Soviets launch the first supersonic airliner the Tupolev
